#10 Red Ravens Fall at #1 Hutchinson 31-0
Hutchinson, Kan. - The #10 NJCAA-ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football team had hopes of defeating the #1-ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons; however, it was not to be, as the Red Ravens fell to the Blue Dragons 31-0. With the loss, Coffeyville's overall record falls to 4-3, including a 3-1 record in KJCCC play. The 3-1 conference record currently has the Red Ravens sitting second in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference behind Hutchinson.
Hutchinson jumped out early, scoring on their first drive with a 30-yard pass from Christian Johnson to Kordell Gouldsby, setting the tone for the game. The Blue Dragons continued to score into the second quarter, connecting on a 76-yard pass and adding a field goal and a touchdown run by Johnson, pushing the score to 24-0 at halftime. Coffeyville's defense stiffened in the second half, only allowing a fourth-quarter touchdown to Hutchinson as the final score was 31-0.
Offensively, the Ravens' trouble on third downs (3 of 14 in the game), as well as two lost fumbles and three sacks allowed, kept Coffeyville off the scoreboard. Coffeyville's offense produced 159 total yards to Hutchinson's 339.
Coffeyville will return to action with its last scheduled home contest this Saturday, November 1st, as the Ravens welcome Ellsworth Community College. Kickoff in Veterans' Memorial Stadium set for 1:00 p.m.
