#7 Red Ravens Defeat Rival Pirates of Indy 28-20
Independence, Kan. - In a game marred by multiple unsportsmanlike penalties/ejections for both teams, the #7 NJCAA-ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Football Team finished off their 2025 regular season with a 28-20 road defeat of the Pirates of Independence.
Independence jumped out quickly as the Pirates struck first with an 11-yard touchdown pass from J. Resar to P. DeFelice, followed by a 22-yard field goal, putting the home team ahead 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. Despite the early setback, Coffeyville responded, driving 75 yards in 10 plays to cut the deficit with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Red Raven freshman quarterback Mac Armstrong to sophomore Charles Morgan, with Aidan Burgess adding the extra point.
The second quarter was a showcase of Coffeyville's explosiveness, ignited by quarterback Armstrong connecting on a 16-yard pass to freshman Michael Kenon, and later ending as freshman defensive back Taylor Cline snagged an errant Pirate pass attempt and raced 61 yards for the Raven defensive score to put Coffeyville up 21-10 at halftime.
A second-half highlight for the Ravens was an outstanding one-handed 38-yard touchdown catch by Raven sophomore Kris Thomas to push Coffeyville's lead to 28-10 midway through the third quarter.
Independence fought back in the third and fourth quarters, adding a 30-yard field goal and a late 3-yard touchdown run by J. Guyton, but Coffeyville's defense held strong when it mattered most to close the final score to 28-10 in favor of the Red Ravens.
Offensively, Mac Armstrong led the charge with 327 passing yards and three touchdowns, spreading the ball effectively, while sophomore receiver Kris Thomas had 7 catches for 155 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Coffeyville's defense was aggressive, with sophomore linebacker Eric Butler and freshman linebacker Antoine Bracey leading the charge with 9 total tackles each.
The heat of the rivalry was evident with penalties for both teams, slowing the pace of the game. Coffeyville was flagged 21 times for 240 yards, while Independence was penalized 12 times for 112 yards. Multiple players for both teams were ejected from the game for unsportsmanlike penalties.
With the victory, #7 NJCAA-ranked Coffeyville ends its regular season with an overall 7-3 record, including a 5-1 conference record.
