Devin Thomas arrived in Coffeyville from Canton, Michigan, where he attended Canton High School. As a senior, Thomas showcased his versatility by excelling at wide receiver, running back, and cornerback. He earned All-State honors after rushing and receiving for over 1,000 yards and scoring 23 touchdowns. His impressive high school career also included seven interceptions, highlighting his all-around athletic ability.

After high school, Thomas attended Coffeyville Community College, redshirting in 2004 before playing as a freshman in 2005, where he earned All-KJCCC Second Team Wide Receiver under Red Raven Head Coach Jeff Leiker.

Thomas later transferred to Michigan State University, where he made a significant impact under head coach Mark Dantonio. In his junior year, Thomas set a school record with 79 catches for 1,260 yards and eight touchdowns, demonstrating his burgeoning talent as a receiver. Recognizing his potential, Thomas declared for the NFL Draft after his junior year, foregoing his senior season.

Thomas was selected by the Washington Redskins in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft, 34th overall. His early NFL career primarily involved special teams play, particularly on kickoffs, while gradually increasing his offensive responsibilities. In 2009, Thomas posted a career-high 323 receiving yards and three touchdowns, highlighted by a game against the New Orleans Saints where he surpassed 100 yards receiving and scored twice.

In November 2010, playing for the New York Giants, Thomas found a more prominent role. Wearing jersey number #8, Thomas made impactful plays on special teams and contributed to the Giants' success. Notably, during the NFC Championship Game in January 2012, he recovered two crucial fumbles, including one in overtime, helping the Giants secure their spot in Super Bowl XLVI, which they won against the New England Patriots.

In March 2012, Thomas signed with the Chicago Bears but announced his retirement in August of the same year. His decision was influenced by a desire to avoid long-term injuries and to focus on his family life with wife Ashia and children, Devin Jr, Judah, Liam, Noah, and Alaïa. Despite a brief NFL career, Devin Thomas left a mark on the field with his resilience, versatility, and key contributions during the Giants' Super Bowl-winning season.
