Martrell Spaight grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas where he attended North Little Rock High School.
As a senior at North Little Rock High Schoo,l Spaight earned a Football All-State selection.
After high school, Spaight signed with the Red Ravens. As a freshman in 2011, Spaight recorded 101 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss,1.5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries along with one forced fumble. His work as a freshman earned Spaight NJCAA First Team All-American honors at Linebacker.
Spaight’s sophomore year for Coffeyville was exceptional with Spaight recording 130 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 3 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, and 1 blocked punt. His 130 tackles on the year rank him fourth in Red Raven history. Spaight earned another NJCAA First Team All-American honor at linebacker and was named the KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year.
After Coffeyville, Spaight signed with the University of Arkansas Razorbacks where he played for two years. As a junior with the Razorbacks, Spaight played in nine games while starting in two. As a senior, Spaight started all 13 games and tallied a conference-leading 128 tackles on the season, becoming the first Razorback to lead the SEC in tackles. Spaight was selected as a consensus All-SEC selection.
Spaight was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft. He has also had stints with the Miami Dolphins, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Kansas City Chiefs.
