Sammy Williams
Offensive Line (1994-95)
Sammy Ray Williams was born in Magnolia, Mississippi to Marylin Williams. He is the younger of two siblings, with the other being his older sister Donnis Williams.
Williams was raised in Harvey, Illinois where he graduated from Thornton Township High School.
Williams signed initially with the University of Oklahoma but transferred to Coffeyville before his freshman year. Williams was a member of the 1994 and 1995 Red Raven Football Teams where he was able to earn a spot on the First-Team All-Jayhawk Community College Football team as an offensive lineman.
After earning his Associate of Science degree from Coffeyville, Williams transferred back to the University of Oklahoma. Williams played for the Sooners from 1996-98 where he excelled on the field affording him a place in the NFL.
Williams was drafted in the sixth round in 1998 by the Baltimore Ravens. Williams played for the Ravens for four seasons, including the 2000 season where they were named Super Bowl XXXV Champions on January 28, 2001. Williams went on to play for the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Diego Chargers before retiring with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2004. While on his Super Bowl high, in 2001, Williams played for NFL Europe with the Berlin Thunder where he was a part of yet another championship team.
After winning two championships along with six years in the NFL, Williams retired and went on to coach Little League football for the next 12 years.
Williams has three children, (Lamiya Mark, Tre Williams, and Jalen Williams) and is the proud grandfather of two boys with another on the way. Jalen, the youngest of the bunch, is following most closely in his father’s footsteps as he is currently a member of the Red Raven Football team. Tre is also playing football at San Bernardino Valley College
