Red Raven Jeremiah Ibeziako Scores 29 as #3 Red Ravens Defeat the Pirates of Indy 99-76
Coffeyville, Kan. - Red Raven freshman Jeremiah Ibeziako scored 29 points as the #3 NJCAA-ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Men's Basketball Team defeated their cross-county rivals, the Independence Pirates, 99-76. With the victory, Coffeyville's overall record improved to 6-1, including a 1-1 record in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference games.
Coffeyville and Independence played a close matchup in the first half, with Coffeyville opening with a 41-40 lead at halftime and then extending their advantage into the second half. Off the bench, Red Raven freshman Jeremiah Ibeziako led the team offensively with 29 points. Freshman guard Tyson Tucker added 17 points, shooting 6-of-12 from the field, while freshman Ulysses Webb added 13 points and 6 rebounds. Sophomores Rashid Kuta and Daniel Ntambwe each added 10 points.
Coffeyville's shooting was impressive, finishing at 57.9% from the field and 40% beyond the arc. Coffeyville also excelled at free throws, converting 27 of 39 attempts (69.2%). The Red Ravens' rebounding was solid, with 35 boards to Indy's 30.
Independence struggled to find a consistent offensive rhythm, with David Wilson and Sterling Knox leading their scoring but unable to keep pace. Wilson scored 17 points on 6-10 shots, and Knox added 15 points.. The Pirates shot 45.8% overall but couldn't overcome Coffeyville's shooting efficiency and rebounding.
Coffeyville will play its first game of the Thanksgiving week on Tuesday, November 25th, with a road game to Liberal, Kansas, to play the Seward Saints. Tipoff in Liberal is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
