Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College men's basketball team was able to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon, defending home court and defeating the Garden City Broncbusters, 90-82.
It was a tight first half, with the largest lead held by either side just six points in the opening 20 minutes. CCC took a 47-42 lead to the locker room, and were able to expand on the lead, beginning the second half on a 24-15 run to lead by 14. Garden City converted on late 3-pointers to make the final minutes interesting, but Coffeyville converted on necessary free throws and were able to escape Nellis Hall with a crucial win.
Sophomore Rashid Kuta had a phenomenal game, finishing with 21 points and nine rebounds on a perfect 10-10 shooting. Jack Sorrell added 18 points and four assists, and Daniel Ntambwe finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
With the win, the Red Ravens are 13-5 on the season, and have a 7-5 conference record at the league's halfway point, currently sitting in a tie for third place with Independence and Butler, but holding the four-spot via head to head tiebreaker.
The Ravens will look to make it two in a row, and travel to El Dorado to battle the third-place Butler Grizzlies on Wednesday night.
