Red Ravens Ready to Compete at Outdoor Nationals
Coffeyville, Kan. - The Coffeyville Community College Track and Field program is sending a number of athletes to Hobbs, New Mexico, to compete in the 2026 NJCAA Outdoor National Championships this week.
The three-day event begins Thursday with field events as well as relays not including the 4x400 meter. Sophomore Evan Forbush is one of the Raven throwers competing this week. He says he grew from his hardships as a freshman.
An additional thrower competing is sophomore Carla Kay Brown. She says she's embraced focusing on self-preparation, rather than paying attention to competition.
Competing in the long jump is former Field Kindley star Dantevius Boykin, who says the training he's put in his sophomore year has been the most intense of his career.
The final athlete competing on the opening day is sprinter Ja'Kheria Kelser, who began her track career late. She says the progress she's made quickly is something she feels very prideful of.
Sophomore Genesis Griffin was the KJCCC East Division champion and Region 6 runner up in the triple jump at the indoor championships. She says team bonding was strong at the end of the season, and the chemistry is at an all-time high.
CCC is sending a group that have already claimed a national championship, with the 4x400 meter relay team of Delvion Zanders, Randin Johnson, Usir Bey, and Latrell Johnson, who took the indoor title with a time of 3:08.03 in March. Latrell Johnson, who has offers to Houston, Tennessee, and South Florida, re-lives the final stretch that etched the group into Raven history.
Entering the championships, the Coffeyville men are ranked No. 7 and the women ranked No. 10 in the latest national rankings.
