Bio

Rudy Alvarez enters his third season as an Assistant Cross Country/Track and Field Coach in 2025. 

Coach Alvarez is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the program, including training, recruiting, as well as coaching jumps and multis. 

During his first two seasons at Coffeyville, Alvarez produced 5 Conference Champions, 1 Regional Champion, 16 National Qualifiers, and 4 All-Americans. 

Alvarez comes to Coffeyville after a short stint at NCAA Division II Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia, where he was responsible for assisting in all aspects of the program, including training, recruiting, and day-to-day operations, as well as coaching jumps and throws.

Prior to his time at Emory, Alvarez spent two years as the assistant coach at NCAA Division III Houghton University in Houghton, New York. While with the Highlanders, he coached 12 all-conference selections, including 3 conference champions, the 2022 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, and one 2023 USTFCCCA All-Region selection.

Alvarez holds a USATF Level 2 certification in Jumps.

As an undergraduate, Alvarez was a two-year member of the track and field team at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas before transferring to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he competed for the Lions. Alvarez finished fourth in the javelin throw and sixth in the triple jump at the 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He was named to the SWAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll for both the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons. 

Alvarez received an Associate in Science degree from Coffeyville CC in 2019 and a Bachelor of Science degree in health & administration and recreation wellness from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 2021, where he graduated summa cum laude.  Alvarez completed his Master’s of Business Administration from Houghton University in August of 2023.
