Raven Freshmen Ready to Make Impact
Coffeyville, Kan. - Coffeyville Community College softball gets the new season started this week, and are looking to a number of true freshmen to help move the program in a positive direction.
The Red Ravens finished last season with a 10-30 record, but bring in a large recruiting class that is creating positive momentum as Head Coach Ashton Friend and Assistant Coach Tyler Fuller enter their second season on staff.
Emma Lara is a freshman utility player from Bonner Springs, Kansas. She says the newcomers bonded quickly, and created a strong team culture in the program.
Another freshman poised to make an immediate impact is outfielder Rylee Bankston, of Bridge Creek, Oklahoma. She says the adjustment to college softball took some time, but the freshmen are starting to find rhythm.
A local product will also be a key contrubitor this spring, with freshman infielder Heather Mowdy signing with the Ravens from nearby Pittsburg, Kansas. Mowdy says the community will enjoy the energy and joy the team plays with.
Coffeyville opens their season Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Eastern Oklahoma State, before the home opener Friday against the Butler Grizzlies.
