Lady Raven Season Ends in Region Semifinals Loss to Butler
Great Bend, KS - The Coffeyville Community College women's basketball team had their season come to an end in the Region VI semifinals, dropping a hard-fought game to No. 1 seed Butler, 65-62, at the Fliske Fieldhouse in Great Bend.
The Red Raven defense put together a strong effort, holding the Grizzlies to under 30% shooting in the first half, and holding a six-point break heading into the locker room.
Butler took their first lead of the game with just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter, and despite getting back within one, the Ravens were unable to draw back even with the Grizzlies. Coffeyville had a shot for the tie as time expired, but the right-wing three went off the back of the rim.
Esme Smith finished with 15 points and seven rebounds in the final game of her freshman season, while Aubrey Hishaw had 14 points, and Karliey Parker finished with 12 points. Butler's Keegan Yarick finished with a game-high and tournament-high 26 points in the win.
Both Smith and Hishaw were named to the Region VI All-Tournament team, for their performances in the quarterfinal win over Seward County, and the semifinal defeat against Butler.
The Lady Ravens finish the season 23-9, and fourth place in KJCCC play. Smith, Mahogany Butler, and Taiylor Caron are a few of the expected returners for next season's team.
