Red Raven Women's Soccer Falls 2-1 in Season Opener vs Rich Mountain
Mena, Ark. - In a hard-fought opening game of the 2025 season, the Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women's Soccer Team fell 2-1 to the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain Bucks.
The game started with both teams feeling each other out, but it was Rich Mountain who struck first in the 8th minute, with Maya Lane capitalizing on an opportunity to put the Mountaineers ahead 1-0. Coffeyville responded well with a tightened defense for the remainder of the first half.
In the second half, Coffeyville equalized the match in the 57th minute when Red Raven sophomore Azul Alvarado scored her first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore Rebeca Melo, tying the score at 1-1. As a team, Coffeyville's offensive effort was balanced, with a total of 11 shots and 8 shots on goal.
However, Rich Mountain regained the lead just two minutes later, in the 59th minute, when Solange Depirou scored unassisted, securing the game-winning goal for the Mountaineers. Throughout the match, Coffeyville's defense and goalkeeping kept the pressure on, with Macy Lemke making five saves in her debut, while allowing two. The Red Ravens were not able to net a goal for the remainder of the match and fell to the final 2-1 score.
Key contributors for Coffeyville included Julia Pereira, who led the Ravens with three shots, and Bernita Baafi, who was active on offense with two shots.
Coffeyville will return to action with its home opener scheduled for Saturday, August 23rd at 5:00 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Stadium against the Northern Oklahoma College-Enid Jets.
